This summer, our family started the tradition of shopping at the North Carolina State Farmer's Market. On Saturday mornings we visit the market to buy our produce before finishing up our weekly grocery shopping at the store. Because the produce is so fresh and reasonably priced, we end up buying more than we ever would at the grocery store (which is the only way we can trick ourselves into eating more whole foods). Daniel's enthusiasm for heirloom tomatoes resulted in us eating a meal of almost nothing but tomatoes with homemade mayo one night last week. As contrary as it is to my nature, Daniel's love for vegetables has helped me develop a palate for them and my arteries & immune system are thankful for that. The best fruits of our trip this week were Johnston County Beauregard sweet potatoes, Bibb lettuce, blueberries, blackberries, and Cherokee Purple & German Johnson heirloom tomatoes. If you've never given the farmer's market a shot, I would highly recommend a visit!
