WATERCOLOR | COFFEE SERIES

     

Coffee is my life-blood. I have been spoiled rotten by my barista-husband into a level of coffee snobbery that I previously couldn't have imagined existed. Daniel makes me my own personal pour over almost every morning--even on super busy weekday mornings. I'm now so used to his level of incredible quality that my tastes have outgrown my own humble coffee-making abilities. I'm too coffee-prentious for my self. Ugh. One day I will master the art of the pour over (it involves a lot of precise measuring and temperature control...not my strong suits...) but until then, I'll just have to paint simple watercolors of our beautiful coffee gear that I barely know how to use.

WATERCOLOR | BATHROOM SERIES

I like to refer to this as my "gilded" series. Technically speaking, these aren't completely watercolor because I used some acrylic metallic gold paint for the accents. I painted these to hang in our downstairs guest bath mostly because the bathroom is the one room where you can get away with stuff like this. I wanted to paint something funny but cute to give our guests a chuckle. Also, I've always secretly wanted a golden toothbrush.

The first time I tried my hand at real-deal watercolor painting (not just messing about with doodles in a sketch book, but really committing an image to paper with the intention to frame it on my wall) I composed these two representations of Daniel's Leica M3 and a Holga I bought him for his birthday two years ago (which has now effectively become my Holga). For my birthday this year, Daniel bought me a lovely Polaroid camera which I will eventually paint as well to round out this little series. 

WATERCOLOR | PIPE SERIES

Here are a few watercolor portraits I did of Daniel's pipe collection. I've been really interested lately in visual communication and restrained simplicity. This is the second series I've done of treasured objects from our home. I chose to paint the pipes because for me, these symbolize long, slow evening talks on the back porch that end with me & Daniel smelling like fragrant, sweet tobacco smoke.
